Virtual exhibition Best in Design 2020

11. 12. 2020

Within the Zlin Design Week festival, the international competition Best in Design has been supporting young designers for 11 years – even now,  when the time isn’t the best for cultural events. Along with the registration for the competition next year, a unique virtual exhibition of works by winners and finalists from 2020 is opening. The exhibition will be open 24 hours a day from December 8, 2020, to January 31, 2021.

Visitors may expect works by 30 finalists from the clothing, industrial, product, graphic, and digital design. “Originality and a sense of innovation, for example, using a new material or new technology. Functionality, ergonomics, user comfort, safety, easy maintenance, ecological side Aesthetics, symbolic and emotional content and, last but not least, the overall visuals and idea processing, and the potential for manufacturing the idea.” describes the criteria evaluated by judges, Ladislav Škoda, chief designer of Tescoma.

How does the virtual exhibition work?

The non-traditional concept is used for the first time by the Mozilla Hubs. Not only is it possible to exhibit virtually, but visitors are also allowed to integrate with each other. By creating their avatars they may communicate and share content together. Try it yourself at this link

In the non-traditional space, visitors may see, for example, work by the designer Nikola Mikulecká, who impressed the jury with an unconventional design of a beer tap or Lukas Keysell’s design of a universal world language. Moreover, the During the Sunset collection by the absolute winner, Milan Flíček, will be exhibited too. His work is inspired by the 100th anniversary of our republic and its notabilities.
