Program at G18 | summer 2024

1. 7. 2024

The summer in the G18 gallery will be relaxing, but besides the exhibition you can also look forward to a barbecue, a concert and a lecture. Take a look at what we have prepared for you for the summer months.

26 June – 18 July 2024 | Exhibition Theses 24
The traditional exhibition of diploma theses by students of the Faculty of Multimedia Communications will be held for the first time this year in three locations – the Rector’s Office of TBU, the Collective House and the G18 Gallery. In our gallery you will find works from the Digital Design, Game Design and Product Design studios. The exhibition will be open daily from 10 AM to 6 PM, from 26 June to 18 July, including weekends and holidays. Admission to the exhibition is free for all.

10 July and 12 July 2024 | Junior University
This year we have again become one of the sites of the summer Junior University, which is held under the auspices of the Faculty of Humanities. In two morning blocks, children of different age groups will be able to get to know the behind-the-scenes of the gallery and its operation. The programme is only open to children who are registered in the Junior University programme.

8 July – 12 July 2024 | Slavex Pride

For the second year we are part of Slavex Pride, a festival celebrating the queer community. In addition to the gallery, the programme will take place at several other locations in Zlín, Uherské Hradiště and Napajedla. For the full programme, we recommend following our website or social networks.

9 July | 4 PM | Chill Out Queer Party
On Tuesday 9th July we will meet together in the courtyard of the U4 building of the Faculty of Multimedia Communications (Univerzitní 2431, Zlín), where we will play board games and barbecue. To stretch your legs and arms after losing in Monopoly, DJ Miukko will play from 6 PM onwards and has prepared a special set with the greatest queer tracks. Admission is free.

12 July | 7 PM | Lecture Being LGBTQ+ in the Czech Republic
Towards the end of 2022, the Rise Up project conducted research on the lives of LGBTQ+ people in the Czech Republic, called “Being LGBTQ+ in the Czech Republic 2022”. A selection of the main findings of the study will be presented by Michal Pitoňák, chairman of Queer Geopraphy. The lives of LGBTQ+ people are still shrouded in many myths and prejudices. But what is it really like? This is the focus of Queer Geography’s most extensive research to date. Is the Czech Republic a safe country for people with a different orientation or gender identity? How much do people have to hide in public? Is there a way out?
Admission to the lecture is voluntary.

12 July | 8:45 PM | Concert by Vanda Kavková – Under Feathers
Vanda Kavková is a singer, performer, actress, director, visual artist and artist. In the gallery she will present her debut album Vývar, which uncannily combines the vocal and rhythmic potential of fragile lyrics of intimate female poetry and the “openmindthinking” of a prominent personality of the Czech alternative music scene, the “noise maker” music producer Tomáš Vtípil, with a precise dose of grotesqueness. Admission to the concert is voluntary.

19 JULY – 24 SEPTEMBER | CLOSED
From 19 July to 24 September, the doors of G18 Gallery will remain closed to prepare for the rich programme of the new academic year. We look forward to seeing you again in September, this time with an exhibition full of product design, opening on 25 Sep 2024, traditionally at 6 PM.
