G18 gallery went to Riga
A few weeks ago, the university G18 gallery became one of the winners of the international microgrant of the European Network of Cultural Centers (ENCC). With our project Community Gallery: Engaging Communities in Inclusive Brand Building, we went to the Tracing the Trails: for Inclusive Culture in Unequal Times conference in Riga, Latvia.
At the conference, certificates were also presented to all four winners of this year’s edition of Up Grants, the award for the G18 gallery was accepted by its manager Eliška Janáková. Eliška presented the winning project to the visitors with a short presentation together with an accompanying workshop that outlined its methodology.
You can read more about the entire project on the ENCC website here.
The busy conference programme also included an excursion to the creative district of Provodnik. Founded in 1888 as a Russian-French industrial enterprise, this district was once the second largest tyre factory in the world. Since 2018, part of the site has been rented out to entrepreneurs and artists, and in 2020 the Točka cultural centre was established here. In 2022, Provodnik officially became a creative quarter, where art workshops, exhibitions, poetry readings, music and photography studios, film projects and other cultural events are now held.
