26. 09. – 29. 11. 2024 Exhibition DESIGN x HOBBY (🇨🇿/🇬🇧)
Hobby market and DIY. The G18 university gallery presents DESIGN x HOBBY, an international traveling exhibition showcasing the results of the efforts of design students from three universities to raise the quality of DIY production to a new level. The DESIGN x HOBBY project features projects by young designers from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland, responding to the challenges of DIY design and presenting possible solutions through accessible yet functional and aesthetically appealing designs. The exhibition is bilingual.
5. 11. | 5 PM Board games night (🇨🇿/🇬🇧)
Every first Tuesday in G18 belongs to board games, which we play together with Q Prostor Zlín. That’s why we will meet again on 5th November at 5 pm. A selection of board games will be provided, but we would be happy if you bring your favorites to show us. Admission is free for all. We offer a selection of games mainly in Czech, but we can also explain the rules in English.
13. 11. | 6 PM Let’s Talk Arts! – Jocelyne Prince (🇬🇧)
Light penetrates Darkness
How can glass turn light into a captivating visual experience? Artist and professor Jocelyne Prince’s talk will reveal how material, site specificity inform her work. Prince will share her experimental work with glass and how this fascination with the material is subsequently reflected in her Fulbright research project.
Jocelyne Prince is an artist and professor in the Glass Department at the Rhode Island School of Design, USA. Currently, thanks to a Fulbright scholarship, she is based in Zlín, where she works at the Glass Studio (FMK UTB).
The lecture is in English, admission is free and no registration is required.
15. 11. | 5 PM About the life of trans* people with Lenka Králová (🇨🇿)
What does it mean to find the courage to be yourself in a country where transgender rights are still widely misunderstood? Lenka Králová, software developer and host of V Tranzu, will share stories of her personal journey and explore the struggles transgender people face in Czech society. The lecture will be held only in Czech.
29. 11. | 9 AM – 4 PM FMK Open Day – banner keychain production workshop (🇨🇿/🇬🇧)
The university application period is approaching and our faculty is opening its doors to all those interested in studying. To mark the occasion, the G18 Gallery will be open on an unusual Friday, from 9 AM to 4 PM. Throughout the day, it will be possible to make upcycled keychains from waste banners directly from the current DESIGN x HOBBY exhibition. We would love to see you, whether you speak Czech or English.
